International scholars explore the meaning of Christian witness in the contemporary world. Beyond every other form of proclamation, living witness is the most powerful medium of the gospel message. The meaning of witness has always carried special weight in the example of the martyrs, and this volume is inspired by the twenty-fifth anniversary of the martyrdom of the Jesuit community in EI Salvador. Among the essays are reflections on the witness of Ignacio Ellacuría, Archbishop Oscar Romero, and John Sobrino's moving tribute to his fellow Jesuits and all the anonymous "Jesuanic martyrs" who died as witnesses to the kingdom of God.
