It doesn’t matter what she writes… She is talented! It won’t take more than a sentence to have you hooked. It won’t take more than a page before you’re pulled into the lives of these characters and then you simply can not put the book down. I want so badly to tell you all about it but I can’t spoil it for you! It’s just too good! This book is headed for the bestseller list! And I can’t wait for book 2 now! This is not the book you expect from Vannetta Chapman, but it is a masterful story and a true blessing! From the wonderful depth of story, you would think Vannetta spent twenty years working with Homeland security. She even uses the slang such an agency would use and it is so flawlessly inserted, you may not even notice it at first… This is also one of those books that you know to expect a romance at some point; there are so many natural roadblocks. It is amazing to me that Vannetta is so skilled a writer to be able to move things around and set things up… and you never see it coming… and you never know what to expect! And you don’t have to step outside your comfort zone a bit. Even if this is not the typical genre for you, it is worth every minute of your time! Just all-around a GREAT book! Don’t miss it! Title: Hidden (Jacob Family Series #1) Author: Vannetta Chapman Pages: 396 Year: 2014 Publisher: Create Space My rating is 5+ stars out of 5! Vannetta Chapman’s novels are outstanding as they draw readers into a story filled with interesting characters and many twists of the plot. I found Hidden when perusing an online bookstore for a book that had suspense, thrills, and action along with a little bit of romance. When I began reading Hidden, I knew I discovered a treasure and quickly ordered the sequel released this year titled, Protected. Unlike her previous books, her main characters are agents with Homeland Security based in New Mexico. The unit is made up of people with various backgrounds and specialties. The leader is a woman named Dana whose young life was touched with tragedy and domestic abuse. Her experience as a child propelled her to excel in the area of law enforcement, but the cost of losing agents is beginning to take its toll on her heart. Now, a new agent is hired whose military background strengthens the unit and with Ben’s smile Dana is not sure she can keep her heart hidden too much longer. The problem is Dana’s faith took a serious blow with her childhood trauma. Ben has decided that she is the one for him, but can he prayerfully work past her defenses? I found reading the tale captivating and action-packed with constant threats and danger always pressing in on the local unit. Ben’s faith is what got him through his service in Iraq and though at times he still misses his best friend, his heart is easily given to Dana. The budding friendship and romance transcends the boss/employee relationship. The risks Ben takes to win her heart and trust is very touching. The constant on-call nature of their job reminds me to be thankful for all who serve our nation to keep people safe from those who desire to carry out evil schemes. I loved how Ben didn’t have all the answers to the questions Dana presented, but pointed her toward asking the Lord directly. Ben’s character made it okay to have questions and to work with the Lord in living daily life by faith. I cannot wait to read the sequel, Protected, and hope that the author plans for more than just two novels in the series. Readers will enjoy the action, feel the hope that faith in the Lord brings and look forward to more stories in the future by this very gifted author. Hidden Vannetta Chapman Book Summary: Home is where our story begins ... DANA JACOBS would rather forget the night of tragedy and violence that marred her childhood. She is now supervisor in charge of the Department of Homeland Security in Taos, New Mexico. Her team is prepared to handle any threat—biological, chemical, conventional, cyber, even nuclear. BENJAMIN MARSHALL is newly assigned to Dana’s office. Straight from a six year military deployment, he is not what Dana wants or needs. Ben knows God has a reason for putting him in this place at this time—to help Dana. When a local school is threatened, they open a case which leads them on a chase through the Enchanted Circle and Carson National Forest, pursuing a man filled with a bitterness Dana can understand. But her anger is different. It’s justified, it remains hidden inside, and it hurts no one. Can Dana face her own mortality? And when she does, can she truly understand what it means to forgive and to be forgiven? Review: This was a pulse pounding no stopping action adventure story. I actually had to take breaks to catch my breathe. I loved Ben and Dana. They were well suited and written flawlessly. I think too much was made over him being a year younger and that seemed to be a stumbling issue for a small section of the story. The mystery and the ever present danger was spine tingling and exhausting. I absolutely loved this story!! It was difficult to put down even when I needed a break from all the action. Wow! No Other Words Necessary! I have read all of author Vannetta Chapman’s Amish fiction books. I sit here amazed at the talent this author has. Yes, her Amish fiction books have been good but this story simply blew me away! I hated every minute that I had to put this book down. This is by far the best book I have read in a long time when it comes to suspense. Where do I start? The characters were real and vivid. The scenery that this author painted was right there and I could see it in my mind’s eye. The terror was real and frightening. I went along with the team every time they headed out to a new place to check out. Evil pure evil lurked inside the pages of this book and I FELT it by the magnificent way this author described it. I also loved the romance entwined throughout this story. I loved Ben and I loved Dana. Ben, strong, brave, and protective. Dana, broken, beautiful, and living with the pain of the past. The fact that Ben and other characters had faith and trust in God brought it all home for me. There is a message we can all learn, especially at the end of the book. I can’t finish this review without telling you, there were tears by the time I read, The End. Vannetta Chapman, this book was awesome. While your Amish fiction stories are great, Hidden touched me in ways I didn’t think possible. This book is more than a 5 star book. I highly recommend that you pick up a copy of it soon. You’ll be glad you did. Your adventure will start on Page One!
Dana Jacobs is supervisor in charge of the local Homeland Security office in Taos, New Mexico. Benjamin Marshall is the new guy in town, assigned to Dana's office after a 6-year military deployment. His charming personality rankles Dana to the core in spite of his brilliance as an explosives expert. His attraction to Dana sets her on edge, and is unwelcome. As dangerous events challenge Dana's best trained team she is forced to accept Ben's expertise and knowledge, along with a strong taste of romance she is unprepared to acquiesce. Dana struggles with bitterness from the past, difficulty with forgiveness, and loss of faith while Ben provides a calm strength and strong faith throughout their investigations into a threat to homeland security. Can she overcome her bitterness and accept the help of one who has the means and the devotion to assist her? Ben to Dana: "Trust me." His faith keeps him on an even keel throughout the most dangerous situations, and he knows that God has placed him where he is for a very definite purpose. He prays for Dana to discover that peace. Vannetta Chapman is recognized for excellence in creating absorbing and captivating Amish fiction as well as Amish mystery. In her newest release, "Hidden," she has crossed over to the Inspirational Romantic Suspense genre, and has done a brilliant job of creating a suspense-filled, well researched plot that kept my attention throughout. Her first venture into the suspense genre without the Amish theme is highly successful! Each of the characters in "Hidden" is strong and unique, personalities the reader can identify with. Emotional and danger-filled, this novel takes the reader to multiple levels, each one creating a strong response to the events through the book. Poignant, composed with sensitivity, compassion and artistic expression, this is a compelling book you won't soon forget! The author has presented a high-pitched work of romantic suspense that will assure you that God has a purpose in all things! You think this book is a thriller from the way it written and told. We learn about Ben Marshall and Dana Jacobs. We are surprised and twists. What is Dana running from? She does not tell us or do we discover completely until end. I do not want to spoil it for you.
Jacobs has a staff of some dedicated members and it to Homeland security. We know someone is after something or someone. There a call that comes in at the school as if it a bomb but you do not now and then there an attack or threat of one. It gets more action packed from there.
If you are a thriller, Mystery, action fan, you get many it all. Though it looks like there some Christian talk in here about god. I mean there is some if not more than enough. Will Dana get over her fears or will she not? ( )
