Ships are disappearing without a trace. Private armies are being secretly formed. The sole remaining protomolecule sample is stolen. Terrorist attacks previously considered impossible bring the inner planets to their knees. The sins of the past are returning to exact a terrible price. I'm writing this review a month late, and I listened to Nemesis Games so fast that I barely remember anything. However, what I do recall is striking. The characters were real to me. The situation existed. I want to know what happened before and after. I ordered the next book. ( )

Excellent! I enjoyed how this book focuses on the characters. Especially enjoyed how the back story for one character was explored in depth
And it focuses on people being deplorable to other people, which both history and literature are replete with.

Edit: So I listened to the audiobook read by Jefferson Mays and he did a fantastic job as a narrator. Highly recommend a listen. ( )

Nemesis Games is a continuation of the Expanse series.Unlike the prior books in this series which focused on the proto molecule. This story focuses on the consequences of the opening the gates to the galaxy. The belters fearing their eventual extinction wage a devastating attack on Earth. Their goal to take control of the solar system and ultimately control access to gates. The book explores the pasts of the main characters, as well the villain of the prior books.
Nemesis Games has the perfect balance between character development, action, and social commentary. I found the examination of the belters and to a lesser extent the Martians plight similar to that of modern day workers who have lost their jobs due to technology. The idea of one of the current or future space power destroying who cities using meteors chilling. ( )

Great return to form after the somewhat lackluster [b:Abaddon's Gate|16131032|Abaddon's Gate (Expanse, #3)|James S.A. Corey|http://images.gr-assets.com/books/1407572059s/16131032.jpg|17606564]. Nice to see the perspective of other crewmembers. Much back-story and growth in this one. Hoping that some of the apparent changes (Peaches and Bobbie joining the crew? Maybe some of the other temp crew?) will stick around to the next book. This book was a lot of fun, and definitely glad to have Jefferson Mays back on narration duty in the audiobook. ( )
