This a great story book that illustrates and follows a little girl and her nana as they work in their large garden. The book is lyrical with the continues use with the words up and down. They explore and and discuss the creatures that wonder up and down the garden. In science I can use this to identify which type of creatures you can find in the ecosystem of the garden. Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt, has been recognized on the Wisconsin State Reading Association Picture This! list and has been awarded the Giverny Award, which awards children's science pictures books. A young girl is gardening with her Nana and discovers all of the fascinating things both in the garden and within the dirt. In the garden she and her Nana notice all of the different aspects of the environment; the ladybugs and the birds. In the dirt, the girl becomes aware of all that lives under there, such as earthworms and pill bugs. This book is beautifully illustrated by, Christopher Silas Neal, to chow all the living things that live in the dirt and up above, in the garden. Kate Messner talks about the bugs who help with the job of making compost, chickens who eat the weeds, the planting of seeds the bees, and a little girl who loves spending time with her nana, gardening. no reviews | add a review
