Ballingrud creates a sense of dread and unease throughout the novel, a slow descent into madness. The supernatural elements are woven seamlessly into the story, adding an extra layer of terror to an already chilling tale. ( ) I read this because it was on a Locus Mag list of best fiction from 2015. I didn't get it. It's a nice idea, but it didn't engage me. I found the writing really emotionally flat, I couldn't care about any of the characters and my reaction to everything that happened didn't get any more involved than "oh, that's a thing that's happening". bit disappointed. no reviews | add a review
