There was a touch of mystery and many outdoor scenes in the book. For some unexplained reason most of the characters in this book did not feel like real people. For me the emotions in the story were shallow. The book had an interesting theme of rival half-brothers, but the book did not beg for me to keep reading it. I might give this author another try in the future. ( ) If you like soap operas and/or the skiing world, then you would enjoy this novel. It involves the Carson family and the ski resort of Mammoth Lakes. It details their lives which involves murder, romance, greed, jealousy and of course competition. To me it was slow building; I didn’t really care for the characters and the ending predictable. There was no suspense or intrigue. Just not my type of story. This review was written for LibraryThing Member Giveaways. Crazy Blood, a novel by T. Jefferson Parker, is the masterfully told story that takes place in a town located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. There are many components to this complex story. The Carson family runs the ski resort where a qualifying race for the Olympics is held. Two of the competitors in this year's race are two half brothers, Sky and Wylie, whose father was murdered twenty-five years ago by Sky's mother, Cynthia. There has always been tension between the brothers and it became much worse once Wylie came back to town after his time in the military. Past tragedy casts a shadow on the present. The tension builds slowly as we get to know the well developed and unique characters whose lives become complicated and intertwined. As for the novel's ending- I was totally surprised. I found this to be a well written and powerful story. I received a free ARC through LibraryThing Member Giveaways. "The Carson dynasty rules the ski resort town of Mammoth Lakes in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. Founded by patriarch Adam, the town is the site of the Mammoth Cup ski race-a qualifier for the Olympics. But when Wylie Welborn, Adam's illegitimate grandson, returns after a stint in Afghanistan, it reopens a dark moment in Carson family history: the murder of Wylie's father by his jealous and very pregnant wife, Cynthia. Her son Sky, born while his mother was in prison, and Wylie are half-brothers. They inherit not only superb athletic skills but an enmity that threatens to play out in a lethal drama on one of the fastest and most perilous ski slopes in the world. Three powerful and unusual women have central roles in this volatile family feud: Cynthia, bent on destroying Wylie; his mother Kathleen, determined to protect him; and April Holly, a beautiful celebrity snowboarder, on track to win Olympic Gold. But, as Wylie falls in love with April and they begin to imagine a life away from the violence that has shattered his family, history threatens to repeat itself and destroy them both. Combining exquisite writing with breathtaking scenes of high stakes skiing, CRAZY BLOOD is an unforgettable story of two brothers on a ruthless quest for supremacy"-- No library descriptions found. |
