From the trees Korak sees a young black being hunted down by a party of warriors, and the son of Tarzan lassos him and hauls him up into the trees to safety. It is Prince Adumo, and he explains that he had been chasing Prince Makondi, who had abducted Adumo's fiance Unandi, a legendary local beauty, when he and his men fell into Makondi's ambush. Only he survived, thanks to Korak. Korak orders him to go back to his village and gather a force of buffalo cavalry and meet him at moonrise at the gates of Makondi's village, which should be opened by that time. Korak then goes to the stone fortress that is Makondi's home, a small volcanic cone at the foot of a large and live snow-covered volcanic mountain. Scaling the sides, Korak overhears two women talking about another smaller, secret escape passage. Korak locates the hut of Unandi and disposes of her guard. He leads her and her handmaiden to the secret passage and sends them through, then he returns to the main gates and hoists the giant bolt, dropping it upon the feet of the sleeping guards. Adumo leads his cattle cavalry through and they sack and burn the town. Makondi himself decides to run for it, and leaves by way of the secret passage, coming upon Unandi and overpowering her. Korak returns to find Unandi, and has to trail Makondi to the top of the volcanic mountain. At the very edge of the fiery pit, Makondi threatens to throw her in, but Korak hits him with an accurate knife throw. Unandi escapes as Korak closes with Makondi, and of course the latter ends by falling into the fires.
