Balto is a working sled dog, the best sled dog that Gunner Kaasen has. Jack and Annie must call on the help of Balto in the middle of a blizzard to find the medicine in the snow that fell off while Gunner Kaasen was mushing to town. The people of Nome, Alaska are sick and dying of a terrible case of diphtheria and it has become a race against the clock for Annie and Jack, who only have 12 hours of mush time. Teddy gives them two things to help them in their journey: gold dust and star dust. One makes them champion mushers and the other is so that when the journey is completed, no one will remember who they are....or will they be recognized? Hmmm..... ( )

Jack and Annie are sent back in time by Merlin to help the people in Alaska transport important medicine to a town that has had a diphtheria outbreak. Because a storm is looming about and Balto, the famed sled dog, can’t get to them, Jack and Annie use their magic potion to become expert dog racers and make an attempt. Balto finally meets them and they get back to town where they use another potion to erase the town’s memory of Jack and Annie while they turn back to their time. ( )

Cute and educational. I like how they finally got a special way to erase themselves from history, but questions why they haven't done this before - they've partaken in almost every major event in history, yet only just now thought to make people forget their existence? Merlin is slackin' here. ( )

Jack and Annie travel back in time to 1925 to help Balto, a siberian husky, save victims of the diphtheria epidemic in Alaska. The book mixes fantasy and history in an action-packed adventure that keeps students engaged and eager to read.

In Balto of the Blue Dawn Jack and Annie are sent back in time by Merlin to help people in need. They will have two potions one that makes them experts and one that will erase people's memory of them. When they arrive at there destination they find themselves in Alaska. The town they arrive in his having an outbreak of diphtheria. Balto is a famous sled dog that is suppose to break medicine to the town but there is a big storm coming so he might not make it. Jack and Annie use their potion to become expert mushers and plan to meet Balto to retrieve the medicine. When they finally meet up with Balto the sled and crashed and the medicine fell out. Annie untied Balto and told him to find the medicine and he did. Then they all went back to the town with the medicine in tow. Jack and Annie then used their potion to erase the towns memory of them. This book is good historical fiction and fantasy book. It is historical fiction because there was a diphtheria outbreak in 1925 in Alaska. It is also a fantasy because of the magic potions used in the book. Age 7-10 years.
