Fiona was the leader of her clan and she would do anything for her people. Except marry. But that is exactly what five suiters have shown up at her door for. Marriage. And now the one man she believes will be next, has stolen some of her property. Caelen has no clue what the sexy little woman is up to by accusing him of offering a marriage proposal since that is the last thing on his mind. Soon though, the threats are still coming, the thieving is still happening, and now a death. Someone is out for Fiona's lands and head, but is it still her foe Caelen? ( )

In my heart I want to give it less stars, but the writing was decent (a little strained on too modern language in the prose and perhaps a little too outlander on the quotes). The story moved. There was rationality to it. I liked the bloody storyline. But then, on the last page, the bloody story doesn't end. It doesn't even wrap up part 1. It just stops.

Begin rant (not just to Ms. Tisdale): Note to authors: A series does in fact continue from one book to the next, but a complete novel--even in such a series--has a complete plot that is RESOLVED in each book. Overarching problem in the series takes the whole series to satisfy. Fine. But stop with the incomplete books just so you can publish faster and get more $$ for your books. Honestly. I'm done with it. I won't read the rest of the series because I feel like it's one big middle finger to the reader. I'm done with these types of books. And I'm going to have to actually start researching books better before I buy something that sounds good to find out whether it's a complete work of fiction or not. I'm over it.

End Rant.

If you like Outlandery types of books and don't mind when people cut off in mid-.

Annoying, isn't it?

PROLOGUE - A MURMUR OF PROVIDENCE, SUMMER 1356, THE HIGHLANDS OF SCOTLAND
Fiona McPherson was many things.  Stoic, calm in the face of chaos, and fierce.  She could also be considered kind as well as generous, Determined, however, was the word most oft used when describing her. And today, she was very determined to get through the remainder of this meeting without committing murder.
Quotations
I be verra flattered fer yer offer, MacElroy. But, I canna marry ye. Me heart, ye see, still belongs to me husband, God rest his soul.
I be givin' ye the same answer that I gave the McKenzie, the Farquar, and the McGregor. Me reasons be me own and I owe ye no explanation.
