Un récit ambitieux qui vient intriquer des éléments d’un lointain passé et d’un avenir mal défini, les uns se répercutant sur les autres, avec les membres de la JLA comme points d’ancrages dans les différentes réalités : Superman découvre que dans un futur plus ou moins proche, la Terre est condamnée et lui avec (il voit littéralement sa propre mort). Au même moment, un dieu apparaît sur Terre, le dieu de Krypton - et il se met à convertir les masses avec la bénédiction de Kal El. Batman, jamais facile à convaincre, sent qu’il y a sans doute autre chose là-dessous : mais comment combattre un véritable dieu ?
C’est souvent un peu fouillis mais le chaos apparent finit par se mettre en place posément, chaque héros ayant sa part de gloire et de lumière (un peu moins Aquaman, plutôt passif sur le coup) avec notamment une Wonder Woman qui se retrouve héritière du pouvoir de l’Olympe dont les divinités ont déserté la Terre. Le tempo est soutenu et il faut s’accrocher pour entrevoir les liens entre les différents continuums mais les combats, pourtant dantesques, peinent à être correctement retranscrits (surtout Flash qui n’est pas bien rendu). La faute à un Hitch beaucoup moins percutant que sur les Ultimates et même parfois plutôt décevant. La fin d’ailleurs n’est clairement pas à la hauteur. ( )
