The author Major FrancisYeats-Brown, is best known for his Lives of a Bengal Lancer, but he was also a skilled writer on a wide range of subjects and one-time editor of the Spectator magazine. This history is arranged in a slightly chaotic format because many different sources for the various predecessor units have been quoted in parallel. Even so, it is a superb book.Almost half of the pages are devoted to the appendices, the most interesting of which is that which lists all the British and War services, and most are accompanied by a portrait photograph. The book was the author s own personal project, and the number of original copies printed probably did not exceed one hundred (each impressed with a serial number).Apps: Roll of Honour, H & A, List of former officers.
