A counting book put out by the Getty Museum. This states the letter an object begins with, and then highlights part of masterpiece that has that object in it, and then gives the artist’s name and title of the work the sample is from. For example, “I is for iris,” has a portion of Van Gogh’s Irises, and gives the information of his name, birth and death year, painting title, and year painted. My favorite was the “cheat” on the X page. At the end of the book, they show the entire painting for each letter.

There isn’t a story in this book, just color paintings, however I found it engaging and think it’s a terrific introduction to fine art. For those who visit the Getty museum, this book would be a great previsit activity to make the time spent at the museum more rewarding, as I would assume all paintings in the book would be found there. The size of the print, the text, and the paintings are appropriate for children from ages 2 - 8.
