Blue collar Science Fiction.... Running a starship repo company isn't easy or cheap. It's just an endless string of fuel costs, ship maintenance, legal red tape, unhappy debt bailers, shady associates and uncooperative dock officials from one end of the galaxy to the other. Nathan Teller owns and operates Milky Way Repossessions, a company that tracks down and repossesses starships. And although he's only managing to break even on his debt, he wouldn't trade it for anything. (His ex-wife holds that against him. No surprise there.) When Nathan and his crew successfully steal a freighter from the clutches of a particularly tenacious and corrupt dock official, he earns the respect of their high profile employer. Opportunity seems a sure thing. Nathan should be happy. But when that lucrative job op turns into a ransom delivery for a starship crew being held hostage by a cult, he suddenly finds himself pursued by a self-immolating loan shark hell bent on collecting a gambling debt. How will it all turn out? You never know. Especially when Nathan and his Starship repo agents are up against a cult and the mob...… (more)

To be 100% transparent, I read this book quite a while ago and even rated it but seem to have forgotten its review. BUT it left a lasting impression... so much so I am still looking forward to the next in the series.

I remember...

This is a pretty solid, well rounded read. There is some action, there is romance and a whole lot of fun. Solid 3 stars! It was good enough to have me placing book #2 in my TBR. I have to be picky with which books get placed in my pile so I don't take that statement lightly

Overall:
This was a light read but one that warrants more time spent among these characters in this vivid world. I definitely reccomend this book if you're looking for a quick, lighthearted read.

~ Enjoy

Milky Way Repo is a light read that has great potential. It is unfortunate that this potential was not reached, as in the end it felt rather underdeveloped. Characters that were more interesting, like Arulio and Kimiyo, were limited in appearance, and we rather spent time with characters who became more and more unlikable, like Duncan, Nathan, and Celeste. I get it, the characters are meant to be imperfect, but there is a line between flawed-but-redeemable characters and wannabes without dept. Even Richie got this spotlight at some point making you think that he will get his moment later, but it never happened. Plots were tied without proper care in the end. Furthermore, the "relationship" between Nathan and Celeste never felt like one —it was more like a really toxic pursuit between two unstable people.

This was an OK book. From the description I thought it would be like Firefly, but I didn't like the characters as much and found it hard to get into. ( )

Enjoyable space opera featuring a ship's crew who earn their living as a repo company, repossessing spaceships whose owners have not kept up with their payments. Their simple life gets complicated when they accept a commission to repossess a hijacked hearse. This is a lightweight and entertaining story. ( )

Frankly I think this book skirts on the edge of plagiarism. The ship and crew are directly from Firefly (loner captain, married couple, bouncer) and the plot is pure Elmore Leonard. I am not going to go through Mr. Leonard's works to point out the places of congruity but there is nothing original in this book.
