It's a good book to get kids to read, especially if they are fans of Spongebob. Don't get me wrong, I think Spongebob Squarepants is one of the funniest cartoons out there. Certainly entertaining. But to have the story come to book format?
I like the fact that kids who are into Spongebob will pick up the book. The type is a decent size and the pictures are pretty good as well. The story itself is the kind of nonsense that you would see on the TV program. Spongebob goes to Driving School and Patrick comes with him because Patrick has nothing better to do and really can't hang out by himself. So, as you can imagine, the antics start.
I can see a child reading this book and creating a spitball shooter out of a pen and shooting spit balls at his classmates as Patrick did in the story. I can see kids drawing graffiti on their desks as exemplified by the graffiti that was on Spongebob's desk when he was told to sit in the back of the room.
But there were a lot of positives as well, like Spongebob trying very hard to always be the perfect student. Like the cooperation between Spongebob and Patrick to solve problems.
So this book comes with it's good and its bads...it's ups and downs. And it is a chapter book which I think is good because it separates the action, and the young reader can feel that their reading is accelerated.
Just my two cents here.... ( )
