Un beau roman jeunesse sur l'enfance d'Arthur Rimbaud à Charleville, entre son père parti au loin, sa mère qui élève seul ses quatre enfants - Arthur est le second - et qui semble totalement dépassée par l'esprit rebelle et en permanence insatisfait de son fils cadet qui fugue et lui donne du fil à retordre car il étouffe dans cette petite vie bourgeoise alors qu'il n'aspire qu'à des absolus et pour qui les mots sont source de tous ses bonheurs.
