Drop the Act, It s Exhausting is one woman s call to all women to embrace the imperfections in their lives and to air their improper thoughts about relationships, love, sex, parenting, careers, self-esteem, and self-image. By no longer being ashamed or apologetic about how they "really feel, women will become more aware of who they are and more accepting of themselves and one another. With wit, candor, and refreshingly blunt observations, Beth Thomas Cohen proves herself the prime example of how freeing, fun, and unifying it can be to drop the act and live a not so put-together life."… (more)

Drop the Act, It's Exhausting! by Beth Thomas Cohen is a little much for me. While reading the book I cringed at some of the language and felt embarrassed for her husband by some of her stories/observations. I am not sure I would place this book in the self-help section. I did find a few of her observations about motherhood relevant but the insights were lost in the negativity and demeaning verbiage about women in general. Not my cup of tea. ( )

I can not give this book even one star. The author, Beth Thomas Cohen, is not afraid to push her beliefs onto other people at the expense other people's feelings. It seems she is very full of herself and can't comprehend why others do not think like she does. This is more of an instance where an author is promoting herself and not really trying to help others. I think she needs to read her book and look at her behavior.

I am not sure what I thought I was getting, but this wasn't it. While I agree that you should be honest about your feelings I do not think it should be at the expense of anothers feelings. The author seemed to not care if what she said hurt someone else, it was all about telling it like it is and freeing herself. I do not consider this to be a good "self-help" type book because it is teaching bad behavior in some ways. The author is quite hilarious and there are times she does make good points but it seemed for me that the bad outweighed the good in the end. You can drop the act, but you can also respect yourself and others in the process. This book didn't hit that point for me. The language was a bit much at times also.
I received this book from Library Thing Early Reviewers. ( )

I received this book from LibraryThing Early Reviewer and in all honesty I would not recommend this book. Instead of being an inspiration it depressed me. This certainly isn't like my life and I had a hard time relating to anything she wrote about. Maybe writing the book was therapy for her, I just don't know. 2 stars because she did write a book. ( )

This book should come with a disclaimer that it's geared toward mothers over 40. For someone who is 30, no kids, and unmarried, there were large sections of the 150 page book that I was completely unable to relate to. I understand not wanting to alienate potential readers by adding a subtitle, but as a reader, I felt like I had been misled! There were elements of this book that I think had a good concept, I just didn't think they were done well. I felt like she jumped around between repeating herself and using anecdotes that didn't always connect with the other material in the section. ( )
