To celebrate the 500th anniversary of the voyage of Columbus, Sears created this pop-up book as a special promotion. It opens with a map of the known world and relates the 10 month voyage of the Nina, Pinta & Santa Maria through his personal journal. Whatever your political view of Columbus, try to imagine sailing away to a complete unknown and the dangers that may befall you. The pops-ups in this book are well done and add greatly to the story of the voyage. The illustrations are beautiful and detailed, interesting to all. My favorite pop-up is the night scene of the ships at sea, where a comet and erupting volcano add fearful beauty to the night sky. ( )
