Obsessed with the iconic Sixties classic Easy Rider, encyclopedic Floridaphile, lovable serial killer, and movie buff extraordinaire Serge A. Storms devises his wildest plan yet: finish the journey begun by his freewheeling heroes, Captain America and Billy, tragically cut short by some shotgun-wielding rednecks. Setting a course for the Florida panhandle, Captain Serge, with Coleman literally riding shotgun, mounts his classic motorcycle and hits the highway in search of the real America: the apple-pie-eating, freedom-swilling moms and pops of Main Street USA. But the America he finds in the rural burgs dotting the neck of the peninsula is a little bit different, and a whole lot weirder than anything Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper encountered. In a state where criminal politicians are more common than gators, Serge and Coleman discover one particular speed-trap locale so aggressively inept at corruption that investigators are baffled where to start.… (more)

Serge and Coleman...two unlikely soulmates that are loveable, hilarious and extreme. You can't help but root for Serge and find yourself looking forward to his next victim. ( )

Serge Storms is on another road trip extolling his love of Florida's strangeness and history. As usual, he works to set the world right in his own special way. This time he is accompanied by a student working on a thesis about Florida who mistakenly believes that Serge is a history professor. ( )

Serge’s latest obsession is with the film Easy Rider – as it applies to Florida, “the nation’s pace car of dysfunction.” It doesn’t apply, but Serge makes it so by touring the state in search of a 60s vibe in a specially designed motorcycle – with a sidecar for Coleman, who can’t handle a kickstand. In keeping with his self-assigned role as vigilante against extreme bad manners Serge inventively takes down a crooked gang of small town civic leaders that have been dabbling in money laundering and other fraud. ( )

Sadly, Dorsey's books for me are losing their punch. They're cranked out like clockwork and Serge Storms with his buddy Coleman are becoming predictable and boring. The last few Serge Storms books all fade into to a smokey haze, one indistinguishable from another.
They're still fun to read, but there's nothing surprising or shocking any more. ( )

Nothing ground-shaking here - Serge kills some people in unique ways, we get some obscure facts about Florida, and the book zips right along with a sub-plot, this time about a crooked small town. If you like Dorsey and his Serge books, then I'm sure you won't miss this one. If you're new to the whole Dorsey/Serge, I think most people will still enjoy it, I know I did (but then I've read the other 18!) ( )
