A typical elemental masters novel, even though it is about Nan and Sarah, who have psychical talents instead of elemental. As usual, I really enjoyed it, with fun characters and an engaging if not very fast story. This is not high-standing, but it is entertaining, so it gets 4 stars from me. ( )

A haunted singer needs help and Watson also needs help. Interesting but I felt a bit lost with the characters.
Nan and Sarah are introduced to Watson and his wife via an interview with Holmes himself. Watson and his wife are magicians and Sherlock is a devout disbeliever. The two are separated by some cases and Sarah is sucked into the world of an opera singer who has layers.
It's an interesting set of stories but it felt disjointed and the ending felt somewhat abrupt. ( )

Nan and Sarah are investigating the haunting of opera diva Magdalena. It takes Sherlock, John and Mary Watson, Lord A, Neville and Grey. You meet more types of Elemental Masters. ( )

With all due respect, this series is losing its magic to me. I miss the days of the pure Elemental magic, and I confess, I've never been fond of the Sarah and Nan storylines. (I also prefer the tales that have at least a bit of romance in them.) The only thing that bumped this particular installment from mediocre to somewhat enjoyable was the inclusion of Sherlock Holmes et al, but even that smacked of trying a bit too hard. ( )

The eleventh Elemental Masters book has Nan Killian and Sarah Lyon-White working with John Watson and his wife Mary. They are both elemental masters: one of air and one of water. Watson takes the paranormal cases that Sherlock Holmes doesn't believe in and he needs the girls help for a troubling case.

They need to confront and eliminate the mysterious entity that nearly killed Nan and Sarah as children. It requires consulting with other magical practitioners and the assistance of people Nan and Sarah met on an earlier adventure.

Meanwhile, Holmes has been asked to look into the disappearance of the sister of a new opera sensation. Magdalena von Dietersdorf has been taking London by storm and attracting all sorts of wealthy admirers. However, she is also attracting spirits and needs Sarah's talents as a Medium to disperse them. But Magdalena soon comes to wield a power of Sarah that threatens to ruin the years of friendship between her and Nan.

Nan needs to call on all her friends to find a way to free Sarah from this evil influence which is worrying their boss Lord Alderscroft and Mycroft Holmes because they fear she is just a short step from using her power to make mischief with the government.

The story was was well-written; the characters were interesting and well-rounded people. I am eager to read more in the Elemental Masters series even if other books don't include Sherlock Holmes. ( )
