This is a book for learning how to design your own work, rather than for doing projects. While there are some projects in the book, the are designed as exercises to practice the technique described in the chapter. Each chapter starts with an overview of the technique, a discussion of historical variations and information to help you think through what you might do yourself. Then there is a project or exercise at the end of the chapter. Techniques included are cross stitch, Holbein and Assisi work (frightening stuff), blackwork, canvas work, drawn thread work, drawn fabric embroidery, drawn ground work, cutwork on evenweave, and experimenting with design options using multiple techniques.
