Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0882081209, Paperback)

In 1974 Dr. William Beardslee, who had been involved in the civil rights movement in the sixties, returned to the South to seek out some of the workers he had known ten years before. The resulting study, published in 1977, was a series of first hand life histories of civil rights workers who had stayed with the movement in the South for (in some cases) fifteen years or more. In this new edition, Dr. Beardslee takes a second look at the original contributors and reassesses their commitment to the cause. The result is a reaffirmation of the hope and aspirations that inspired the movement. Those who fear that the spirit of the sixties is dead can take heart from this book.
