THE SUMMA CONTRA HERETICOS

Although the Summa contra haereticos has been known and studied
m the eighteenth century, the name of its author still eludes identifi-
ion. In six of the ten known manuscripts the work is anonymous.

The first to write about the work or to use it, L. Muratori, C. Molier,2
A. Molinier,3 and J. Guirard,4 knowing it only from the Milan
anuscript, Bibl. Ambrosiana Q. 32 sup.," which gives the work to

us in the table of contents of manuscript Douai 434 (I), the state-
ent of William of Auxerre that Praepositinus lived among heretics

ript Turin, Bibl. Naz. D.V.28 the Summa occurs between two equally
onymous collections of sermons which he believes are by Praeposinus,
assigned the work to the earlier career of Praepositinus (or

is not correct; it ends abruptly within Chapter V.
