Very basic overview of programming concepts, like basic data types and control structures. Doesn't go into design patterns, object-oriented programming, or the inner workings of C . It seems like very easy stuff, but that may be to the credit of the author.

Almost non sequitur is a chapter tacked on to the end that introduces the beginner concepts of high performance computing through parallel/distributed processing. And I also enjoyed the appendix on effective study habits, especially useful for distance education. ( )
