Overcoming Family and Personal Challenges by Ibiloye Abiodun Christian is a self-help book about how to live your life, oriented around various challenges, as the title suggests. In many ways, it was an interesting read, as I am highly interested in self-help and self-improvement, and I’ve read and loved many of the same books that the author has. One example is Stephen Covey’s excellent “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”.

The author is a devout Christian, and most of his advice is based around a conservative Christian cultural context. For example, he will quote passages from the Bible, such as the one below, which represents a very different cultural belief system from the predominant Western position on such issues.

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

Disregarding cultural differences, I think the book was an interesting read, with some good advice for how to overcome personal challenges. It would benefit from a round of copy editing though, as there are several typographical errors and typos.

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
