The art of embroidery is one for which England has in the past been distinguished at more periods than one, and we may well believe that Anglo-Saxon needlework did not fall in merit behind the contemporary illuminations and miniatures.
This catalogue, first printed in 1907, was compiled and the introduction written by Mr. Eric R. D. Maclagan, an Assistant in the Victoria and Albert Museum : the reading of the heraldry on the Syon Cope [...] and the note on the same subject were contributed by Mr. A. Van de Put, an Assistant in the Library of the Museum, who also revised the other heraldic references.
Mr. Maclagan has revised the catalogue, and added descriptions of objects since acquired, for the new issue.
