Summary
This book is about a dog named Charlie that lives on a cattle
ranch. Charlie's job is to help herd the cattle but he must keep calm and not get over excited like the other dogs. Charlie see's a calf running away from the herd and needs to get the little calf back on track. While trying to get the calf back to where he belongs Charlie and the calf get stuck in the mud. Charlie can't seem to get out of the mud pit and starts to howl.
Once Charlie's "mom" find him she rescues Charlie and the calf she take Charlie back to the ranch house to clean him up. Charlie doesn't like baths but he likes them better
than being covered in mud.

Personal Reaction
This book is good for children just learning how to read. The pictures and the story itself is very entertaining. The pictures are being and colorful and follow the story perfectly.

Classroom Extension
1. I would gather all the student around the teacher's chair so when the story is read all the students can see the pictures.
2.The students would complete a beginning, middle, and end worksheet.
3. I would have the students create a picture of Charlie the Ranch Dog.

Young Reader Reaction: My kids loved Charlie and giggled at his predicament. They also really liked the illustrations. They wanted to read this several times.

Adult Reader Reaction: Charlie is a cute and funny protagonist and the narrative is just right for little kids. I also liked this book.
