In this tiny southern town, Fortune Redding is a CIA operative in hiding. Every new person that comes to town could be there for after her or at the very least manage to blow her cover. Justin Lao has come to town to investigate the effects of the oil spill on local wildlife and unwitting uncovers a dark secret that runs deep through the town. I had so much fun with this book. Gertie and Ida Belle are absolute classics. Fortune took a bit of time for me to warm up to, but the residents of this larger than life small town are certainly worth the price of admission. I admit the premise of the story kind of threw me, but Fortune’s highly analytical behavior and way of looking at things made it easier to accept. The humor throughout the story is infectious and even the science is kind of fun. I had no idea that my crossword puzzle staple, “Nutria” is a swamp rat. I suppose “Mayor” Celia will be happy to know that I intend to visit this charming place as often as I can. I also intend to catch up with Frankie Bow. You have to love a mystery that makes you laugh. 5 stars I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review no reviews | add a review

And let's not forget the Há»? tinh, Hanoi's nine-tailed fox. I was thinking I might write a story about the Há»? tinh." "Gertie, that's a great idea," Ally said. "Are you going to write children's books?" "Oh, my goodness, no. There's no money in children's books. I'm thinking erotica." A graduate student from Hawaii visits the tiny bayou town of Sinful, Louisiana to investigate the effects of the oil spill on the local wildlife. Sinful resident Fortune Redding, who happens to be a CIA operative hiding out from a ruthless arms dealer, worries that the nosy newcomer might blow her cover.
