I also feel writer tried to throw in as many rings at the circus as they could here. In the first book, the nudges towards a bigger plot/ark were more subtle. In this one, they are just fire after fire to be dealt with.
There is still a lack of depth though it tries to gain some in certain parts.
I also have a huge issue w the fact that the main guy (I forgot his name which says something about the chaos of how many random people are tossed around in this book) says he loves and values colt but then gives him a borderline ultimatum to work out his crap and choose to come home or not. ?? ?? ?? ?? His one betrayal and ass-hat-ness is never truly addressed. And colts past and present trauma is treated as if it should just go away bc he loves his mate. SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?! I know people who suffered similar attacks that years later were still showing signs of the trauma without even realising they were doing so bc it changes a person on an instinctual level. It doesn’t go away it isn’t just dealt with and done even if “justice” is served. It is faced and then adjustments are made. The person who emerges from it establishes a new normal. If that means they need frequent verbal affirmations and encouragements that you actually want them around then you F-OMG give it to them. You don’t get pissy and egotistical and bum-hurt the first time that flat out insist you make your intentions clear. Especially not when you yourself act like a dick the first time they don’t seem to worship you. Ok getting off soap box now. It just kinda pissed me off. Especially since so many really think this is an exceptable way to deal w someone who’s faced trauma.
Anyway. I liked colt. The rest I could have missed. ( )
