Enjoyed this immensely. Up to Gedge's quality writing standard. Evocative of ancient Egypt. The horror creeps in quietly, little by little. Prince Khaemwaset of Egypt is a physician, a skilldful magician, and restores tombs. He hopes to find The Scroll of Thoth [the ibis-headed god of wisdom], which is able to confer immortality. He explores a tomb in Saqqara, a necropolis. When he and his family meet a mysterious family, his loving, close-knit family is broken asunder. Khaemwaset is obsessively lustful for the woman, Tbubui. She has her own agenda and pursues it. As soon as the two families met, I got goosebumps until the end of the story and was up until 3 a.m. several nights ago reading it. His family were well-rounded characters, each with his or her unique personality.

A very intriguing read. It started rather interesting, then tapered off into what seemed to be a simple telling of every-day life of the main character. I say 'seemed' because it really only seemed to be that shallow - and before you know it you find yourself in an ever complicating web of a Black Widow... and in the end you're wondering, "How did that happen?!" The depth, pace and ever growing sense of foreboding increased with every page until I couldn't put the book down and found myself racing through the last pages, because I simply HAD TO KNOW how it ends!!
