I'd been looking for a book on materials science because I donated the one that I had which was really very good but dated. Then, somewhat to my chagrin, I found a newer version on sale at a charity bookstall for just $10. And it was a much more recent edition. This current book is really good and the authors are to be congratulated. It's not exactly bedtime reading but whenever, I've picked it up to research something or just to browse, I find things that are quite fascinating. (I've just been reading about polishing and etching materials for microscopic examination, for example). Five stars from me for this book ...even when there are newer editions. "Callister and Rethwisch's Fundamentals of Materials Science and Engineering, 4th Edition continues to take the integrated approach to the organization of topics. That is, one specific structure, characteristic, or property type at a time is discussed for all three basic material types -- metals, ceramics, and polymeric materials. This order of presentation allows for the early introduction of non-metals and supports the engineer's role in choosing materials based upon their characteristics. Also discussed are new, cutting-edge materials. Using clear, concise terminology that is familiar to students, Fundamentals presents material at an appropriate level for both student comprehension and instructors who may not have a materials background"-- No library descriptions found. |
