After reading this book, I can only say that, if you don’t enjoy reading tear-jerkers, perhaps you should reconsider this one. Harmony Banks watches her whole life disappear in a few short moments after a horrendous automobile accident, where she loses her husband and young son. Preston Ward, the firefighter who is on scene, does not succeed saving her husband or her young son, and immediately feels totally guilty about this. After the accident, Preston tries to be there for Harmony, and, before you know it, there is a budding romance between the two. Harmony finds Preston far more genuine than others who have come before, but both, especially Harmony, have difficulty moving beyond grief. Can they manage to get beyond the horrible memory of that fateful day and forge a life for themselves? If so, there is hope for them. This is an interesting, but quite sad, book. I found it difficult not to cry myself at the outset when the terrible accident occurs and Harmony begins the difficult task of facing reality and pushing herself to move on. There is a lot of anger, hurt and angst, especially in the beginning, but main characters do manage to somehow put one foot in front of the other as they work through things. I normally do not enjoy reading tear-jerkers, but this story was so romantic and heartening that I got past most of it and enjoyed the tale. The author has done a fairly good job with the story, and has developed the characters well. The story is predictable but, still, a nice romance to curl up with once you get through the horrors of the accident and its aftermath. It also contains a hopeful, somewhat optimistic, message of love, healing and learning to move on when things are so tough that you can hardly believe they could ever get better. I received this from NetGalley to read and review. I was gifted a copy of "Searching for Harmony" Via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Harmony loses her entire world in a blink of an eye, and Preston is one of the first-responders on the scene. The guilt he feels at not being able to save her son and husband overwhelms him, and he is drawn to her. He blames himself, and even though his Captain urges him to seek counseling services instead of becoming involved with Harmony, Preston ignores the request and tries to bear the guilt on his own. Over time, Preston comes close with Harmony's brother, Jake, and keeps tabs on her recovery from afar. Finally, he cannot keep himself away from her, and starts to visit her, to let her know she has a friend in him. As time progresses, they both feel in the undeniable attraction to each other, but put off being more than just friends. Until Thanksgiving. Preston invites Harmony to his families place outside of Boston for Thanksgiving, and that is when things start to heat up. He is no longer with his selfish girl friend, and Harmony is at the point where she needs to fill the void in her life with love once again. Harmony gets scared of getting too close to Preston. He is a firefighter and she cannot bear to lose him like she lost Trey and TJ, so she pushes away, and goes off the grid for over a month. After much self-wallowing and finally proper prompting, Preston finally goes out to search for her. When they are reunited, they declare their love for each other, and hope for a future; and Preston lets Harmony know that he gave up his profession for one he truly wanted in life. It is a safer career, and one Harmony can be a part of. no reviews | add a review

Firefighter and first responder Preston Ward thought he had grown immune to the job's emotional burns. But when he goes out on a particularly tragic call, he realizes that some scenes are too devastating to forget. And yet, if it weren't for that terrible night, he never would have met the woman who makes him want to risk his heart. More than once, Harmony Banks has watched her perfectly ordered world torn apart by fate. Now she's finding out that what she lost wasn't as perfect as she thought-and it's tearing her apart. The only thing that keeps her going is the kindness of a stranger: the firefighter who saved her life the night everything changed. Preston isn't like the men who have come before. For one thing, he's far more genuine. And the love Harmony feels growing between them is almost too intense for her wounded soul. But if she and Preston can push past heartbreak, they'll find that something incredible awaits in each other's arms. No library descriptions found. |

Kelly Elliott is an amazing writer. From the very beginning she pulled me into the story & had me emotionally connecting with Harmony. Her style of writing had me connecting to the story in a way that Nora Roberts stories do. I cried!! I wanted so desperately for Harmony to find her way back to life & see the connection waiting there for her with Preston. Make sure you have plenty of time to read this when you sit down & prepare to be emotionally drained when you are done.
I was given an ARC of this story by the publisher & NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion. ( )
