Description

The Colors of the Sea, the second book in the Alea Aquarius series, picks up right after the first book. Alea, now accepting her identity as a mermaid, is determined to uncover what happened to her parents and her people. Alongside her friends Ben, Sammy, Tess, and Lennox, she follows a clue northward to Loch Ness, where she learns more about her past and her mysterious connection with Lennox. As Alea grapples with her growing feelings for him, she wonders if he could be a merperson like her show more or even her brother. Their journey takes them to new emotional and adventurous heights, as they search for answers, but danger may be lurking. This volume explores Alea's quest for the truth, her complicated feelings for Lennox, and the rich, underwater world she is discovering, all while balancing her friendships and lighthearted moments with Sammy. show less

Alea and the Alpha Cru are back on the water and still searching for answers. Now traveling to Scotland after finding a message in water-speech on the bottom of a snow globe found in a whale's stomach urging all who can read it to head to Loch Ness. Alea and Lennox grow closer than ever, while meanwhile Alea harbors a secret fear that she can never be close to him. They learn about who and what they are, and how they came to be seemingly the last Mer-people. The stakes and adventures were just the right tempo for the story to progress but not get sidetracked.
It was really fun to learn more about the undersea world, and the harsh impact the ocean pollution can have on the magical creatures. Frequently Alea has to swim past garbage and show more debris, and even a few oil spills in the English Channel. They meet Water Sprites, a mysterious helpful Brook Spirit, and see an entire abandoned underwater ruin that used to be a Mer-village.
I really enjoyed this second installment of Alea Aquarius and am looking forward to the next book that gets translated to English!

Such an awesome and adventurous story.
Alea and Lennox travel to a place called Loch Ness to find out who they are and where they come from. They want to find answers to where their parents are and what happened to their people, etc. The way the story ends is not only heartbreaking but also joyous that sends them onto another adventure with the crew. Definitely recommend.

This books missed the mark for me. The story telling was not engaging - it just jumped from one plot point to the next. It also uses “oh God”, “Damn” and one girl said she “doesn’t fall in love with boys.” In the first book, she stares at a guy “head to toe” while he sleeps- which is inappropriate and creepy. So given this content, I wouldn’t want my kids to read.

It was a good book, full of adventures and self discovery. It is written for younger readers. The translation was very well done.
