Montana Rescue by Kim Law
The Wildes of Birch Bay #2. Contemporary romance. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Nick Wilde returns home to the family cherry orchard to reassess his life goals. He is a championship bull rider but is feeling he’s missing something. Nick gets a ride home from Harper in her helicopter. Nick has had a crush on her since he was young and hopes to rekindle something. Harper resists Nick. She’s been a widow for only eighteen months and isn’t ready to reengage with life yet. Yet Nick is irresistible for Harper.

Heartbreaking and heartwarming as the two circle each other and assess. There is a lot of backstory told for Harper which is sad but needed for why she’s hesitant.
Other family children bring a lighthearted tone to the story.

I have a deep respect for Kim Law as a writer. She does not shy away from human complexities and deep rooted emotional scars. She shines a light on mental instability, depression and tragedies in subtle ways which makes them all the more profound. Harper and Nick have dealt with many obstacles. Nick managed to rise above a life of emotional neglect to make a success of his professional career but has yet to overcome his childhood and find the same success in his personal life. Harper is struggling with a devastating loss that sends her spiraling into a depression that has her questioning herself, her life and the accident that left her a widow. Montana Rescue strength lies in it's inspiring message and it's beautiful backdrops. Heart and soul I fell. ( )

What an emotional read! This is book 2 of The Wilde's of Birch Bay. Let me get this out of the way first. It can easily be read as a stand alone. Ms. Law does a good job weaving the back story in so you aren't lost but also in a way that isn't boring for those that read Book 1. Nick Wilde is a Montana Pro championship bull rider that hasn't made the step up to the national series even though he's being urged to. He doesn't know why he's holding back but he is.

Harper was the object of Nick's crush growing up. Life has not been nice to her. She is a grieving widow trying to find her way. She is a tough, strong willed helicopter pilot that used to love search & rescue & she rocks blue hair! At the start of the book, she comes across as a very closed off, cold, selfish woman. As you get into the story & she begins to open up to Nick, you understand what has made her this way.

I have not read a book that invoked this much emotion from me since my last Nora Roberts or Danielle Steele novel! I laughed, smirked, got upset & cried throughout this one! I feel like I've been through an emotional wringer. Ms. Law has a way of pulling you deep into the story & keeping you there throughout the entire book. Her characters are so realistic & three dimensional that you feel like they could be your neighbors or family. I was so emotional invested in the story I couldn't put it down!! Totally loved this story & would recommend it to everyone.

I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest, unbiased opinion. ( )

There are certain authors that I can pick up and within second get into their books, now this doesn't happen with everyone, sometimes it's not even my favorites, but with Kim Law, it always happens.

I just really enjoy her stories. Her characters are always likable. her stories are sweet & emotionally driven. All you want in a romance.

Montana Rescue is book two in the The Wildes of Birch Bay series. Just a heads up you really should read Montana Cherries first. It really helps build the world of this family.

In Montana Rescue you have Nick's story. You'll really like him. I loved the idea that he had a crush on Harper when they were younger. Which sort of makes this a second chance romance, but not really.

I've sure been reading a lot of second chance romance lately.

But because of what Harper has been through with loosing her husband his crush isn't going to jump right into a full fledged relationship. I like that they didn't rush into anything. It's makes their story more complex, deeper in someway.

We figure out right away that Harper is dealing with a ton of issues from the loss of her husband. She's not looking to replace him. She soon learns that being with Nick isn't replacing her husband. I think the coolest thing about Harper is that she's a pilot and flies a helicopter. This is a first for a heroine for me.

Kudos's to Law!

I really enjoyed Montana Rescue and think you will too. Get it now before book #3 is out. Montana Mornings comes out February 28th. I can't wait!
