Pig the Elf is a hilarious book about Christmas and Santa Claus. Pig wants hundreds of things from Santa (since of course Santa takes orders from kids) while Trevor only asks for something nice. Pig got so excited after writing his letter to Santa, that he just couldn't wait until the presents arrived! He asked Trevor over and over, when will the presents come?! Trevor just smiled and said "they will come when we sleep." Being Pig, he did not like this answer and shouted "SLEEP! I'll have none whatsoever!!!" Well Trevor went to bed and Pig kept his promise. He waited and waited... until finally Santa arrived. Santa left presents a few for Trevor and a few for Pig. Well a few wasn't enough instead he needed to have MORE. So before Santa could get back up the chimney Pig bit his behind. He kept yelling to Santa "ITS JUST NOT ENOUGH!" Eventually Santa got to his reindeer and they started to fly, they got so high that Pig fell off the sleigh. Trevor fast asleep a real Christmas miracle happened that night when Pig feel he survived and was saved by a tree which he looked like the Angel on top.

This book is such a great book for students because it is funny, and shows how wanting too much and saying you don't have enough is wrong since there are so many people who do not have much at all. It is an important lesson to be happy with what you have and not what you "could" have. There is rhyming in the story just like the other two so would be helpful to learn more about rhyming in Kindergarten or 1st grade. I enjoy the use of words like T'was, festive, gent, glee, giggle, dutifully, dismay, cheapskate, and greedy which we would be able discuss each of the words in depth.

That greedy canine Pig the Pug returns in this fourth picture-book devoted to his adventures, eagerly awaiting the coming of Santa, and LOTS of presents. His companion Trevor, a sweet Dachshund, is more moderate in his desires (and more loving in his note), but Pig wants it ALL. When the Christmas gift-giver appears, and doesn't leave enough to satisfy him, our pug anti-hero gives him a good nip on the behind. Has Pig finally gone too far...?

Like its predecessors, Pig the Elf pairs an entertaining tale told in rhyme - "I asked for MORE! / hollered Pig is dismay. / But Santa turned 'round / and then hurried away. / "Hey!" shouted Pig, / sounding very unkind. / Then he nipped poor old Santa's / big, rosy behind!" - with bright, colorful acrylic illustrations that perfectly capture the humor of the story. I'm still not sure why the American publisher of these hilarious Australian picture-books isn't bringing over the second (Pig the Fibber), but I'm glad they've published the other three, as they are quite entertaining. Pig always manages to survive the consequences of his bad behavior, which, while not exactly edifying, is always fun. Recommended to readers who enjoyed the earlier books about Pig, and to anyone looking for new Christmas picture-books with a somewhat quirky sense of humor. ( )
