On face value it is an extremely interesting historical document, cram-packed with vintage tricks of the trade and ingenious solutions. Snobs will argue (fairly) that it is extremely outdated by today's modern technology (fair point). However, many of the core techniques are there if you are willing to look past the cobwebs and through the 'golden age' sepia. In fact, when the time comes, many a cinematographer would be thankful for remembering some of these 'basic' techniques for when nothing else will do.
It is a practical book with many drawings and photos and is filled with examples of in-camera effects.
