I want to say so many things about this book, but I don't want to give even the hint of a spoiler. I'll tread lightly, sticking mostly to generalities, while my mind is silently screaming to tell you about all the hidden treasures.

First, Gareth Lewis is a gifted writer. From page one, I found myself fully immersed in the story. He gives us those little details writers often overlook, showing us who the characters are below the surface and how the unfolding plot envelops them.

I love Blake's character. He's dangerous, serious, philosophical, and persistent. This story is written in first person, from his perspective. We're in his head, sharing his thoughts and emotions, and his character genuinely feels alive.

The plot bends the mind, asking questions with no clear, comfortable answers. We question existence at its very core.

The pacing is steady, giving us time to absorb the "what if" aspects but never any time to relax. We're swept along through the twists and turns, discovering, along with Blake, that some things are better left to the unknown.

One of my favorite things about Gareth Lewis's writing is that he never allows me to become a complacent reader. His writing provokes - demands - reflection. This one is guaranteed to leave you wide-eyed and off balance. ( )
