The innocent are convicted. The guilty get away. The scales tip toward the powerful, while the weak remain oppressed. If our world is so sophisticated, why is there so much injustice? What can believers do? Can we ever expect justice? Dr. Paul Nyquist, president of Moody Bible Institute, addresses these questions and more in his new book, Is Justice Possible? In four parts he considers: #1. Biblical and theological foundations of justice #2. Obstacles to justice in human society #3. Practical steps for pursuing justice in political, personal, and public arenas #4. The hope of true justice upon Christ's return. At its core, this is a book about an attribute of God. Rather than rely on our own ideas of justice, we must look to the One who made us and embodies justice perfectly. If even considering reading a book on the topic of social justice and criminal justice system reform is an "oh boy, getting wild and controversial" step for you, then this is a good book to start with. Nyquist is an effective, compassionate author, and I've heard few better biblical expositors in my life. Also, I really appreciated his inclusions of resources and concrete steps to take.

If, however, you're already somewhat in the arena of biblical understandings of Justice vis a vis criminal justice and racial inequality, this book won't be the most earth-shattering. Nothing wrong with it, just much more introductory to the issues than I was expecting. ( )
