This book has three folk tales from the Bicol region of the Philippines. As in PI folklore, man and nature coexist in respect and mutual admiration. In the first tale, Handyong the brave ruler battles monsters from the jungle to save his kingdom. He meets the beautiful Oryol who helps him defeat the monsters and they get married. Life's balance is restored. The second tale is about a great hunter who is cruel. He turns to stone for his mistreatment of nature. The third story is about a Emmanuel who returns to his village at the base of an erupting volcano and selflessly rescues the next year's planting seeds so his family and village can overcome the disaster.
