Super Kam and the Super Duper Shoes is a heart warming book about a boy with Autism and hearing aids. I enjoyed this book and would love to read it in the classroom followed by a discussion about his differences. The author depicts Kameron as a super hero by giving him a blue scarf that looks like a cape. He is a super hero because he can do, feel, and hear things that other children can not due to ASD. The book discusses Kam's symptoms as super powers. He repeatedly takes his shoes and socks off because he doesn't like the way the fabric feels. It is also mentioned that children with ASD sometimes have trouble speaking or relating to emotions. Kam also uses sign language to say sorry. There is a great graphic demonstration in the back of the book for students to learn how to say sorry as well. This is a helpful text feature that can lead into a healthy discussion on children with differences. ( )
