La storia di 73 ragazzi ebrei in fuga attraverso l'europa sconvolta dalla guerra e ospitati dall'estata 1942 all'autunno 1943 a Nonantola in provincia di Modena. Accolti e soccorsi dalla popolazione locale, conoscono a Villa Emma una parentesi di quiete. Dopo l'8 Settembre 1943, per sfuggire alla cattura e alla deportazione, riescono nonostante i pericoli a raggiungere prima la Svizzera e, a guerra finita, l'Yishuv del costituendo stato di Israele. La loro vicenda è rievocata con interviste a testimoni e storici.
