![]() None No current Talk conversations about this book. Part One of Three. This was an enjoyable installment in the same world as Katlyn Parker and Martin Sandeke’s romance from the “Chemistry” series. Mona is a twin, the nerdy half of the duo, and the daughter of famous singers. When her twin, Lisa, is arrested, she asks Mona to pretend to be her for a week so her parents don’t find out she’s in jail. But during that week, Mona falls for Abram, the best friend of their older brother, who their parents have hired to watch out for “Lisa.” This was cute, with definite chemistry between the two leads. It was also a hard read in places simply because the deception goes on for so long, and you know there are going to be REALLY hurt feelings. Still, Penny Reid writes a compelling love story, and I always enjoy her books. This was no exception. Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader. Mona is a genius, working on her PhD at age nineteen, but when her identical twin sister gets arrested, she rushes home to take her place. Abram, her brother's best friend and the guy meant to babysit the bad twin sister, doesn't know the difference but finds himself attracted. I admit I thought the plot a bit silly. but the two lead characters saved it. Abram is more devil-may-care compared to Mona's serious attitude, but that's what made them interesting as they start to change the other's viewpoints. I did find Gabby irritating, but still a good story. Now I'm curious to see where the next book goes. Fantastic book!!! I loved every second of this. The characters have such depth to them, the story is layer upon layer of goodness. The Pace of the story is perfect and everything you could want in a book. I enjoyed this tremendously. I love Penny Reid's humor and her quirky sometimes odd heroines. It just what the book nerd in my craves. This story was so great I wish all books I read were this amazing. Told in the first person. How does one possibly write a review when this isn't a complete book? Here we once again have the Penny Reid formula, can she make any of her genius heroines just a little bit socially capable? I'm over her focus on intelligence being hot. It is, but her focus and emphasis on it just grate. And this is a twin-switch. Ugh. The only way this book can possibly succeed is by making us identify with the heroine only, and having Abram's internal thoughts and sensitivity outside the reading experience. He's in love with her. I never doubt this. (Partially b/c Reid did do a good job - even if I think the placement of him in the first series was kind of 'wtf'-developing him) Also, Abram is so street smart, I am so curious why he didn't add this all up! So basically, I hated Mona for a good portion of this book. Because lies. She hates herself, and we see that, but we also don't see how awfully this is going to hurt Abram....we just sense it. And that's the only reason I could tolerate this book. I can't watch a character in a book just get eviscerated for the angst. It has to mean something. There were good things here too. Growth with Gabby, etc etc. It was a totally addictive read. (But she really could do with cutting out some of the things that her STEM heroines think. I don't think we all have internal monologues that basically make life an analogy of our professions. It's gimmicky. Half the time something is so obscure it must be cheaply explained, so basically, jury's out on why this is three books--but I'll bet all that indulgence has something to do with this. (I sounds super crabby!) I'm still surprised to see typos and errors. no reviews | add a review

Forced to lie to protect her sister . . .From the New York Times Bestselling Author Penny Reid One week. Home alone. Girl genius. Unrepentant slacker. What_s the worst that could happen? I enjoyed the story. The writing as always with PR is good. I liked both the hero and the heroine. There were some really interesting and fun parts. I particularly enjoyed the DO NOT BURN letters. I bought into the feelings they had for each other. The story arc was believable over all even with the insta love element.
My reaction probably suffers a bit from a sincere lack of interest in rock stars and perhaps a bit more angst mightn't have come amiss.
I did wait until all three books were out before I started the series because I know how I am. I would just rather read the whole thing at once. (
