It’s the first day of school, and Curious George has been invited to Mr. Apple’s class to be a special helper! George is just the right monkey for the job—until he starts to wreak his usual havoc, that is. Red and yellow paint makes orange, yellow and blue makes green . . . and a mixture of all the paint colors makes a big mess! Curious George and the First Day of School is a story based on H. A. and Margret Rey’s popular primate and painted in the original watercolor and charcoal style. A full-color twenty-four-page paperback with bonus activities inside, including an “Ants on a Log” recipe, a word search, and a “Color Your World” craft idea. ( )

Curious George's first day of school is about the monkey, George who is finally able to go to school. He decides he wants to be a big helper. But when he gets to helping mix colors for art, it turns into a disaster. He wants to help clean up his mess but it turns into an even bigger mess! The principal and teachers end up chasing George around the school. George felt so bad, but the children were able to make him feel better. The illustrations were very well detailed and went along with the text very good! This would be a good book to share in a classroom because it shows friendship between the students and George when George was feeling so sad. ( )

This is a classic children's book about the notorious and curious little monkey named George. It's his big day to be a helper at the school and he is a great helper. He decides to help at art time by making more paint colors but ends up making a mess. He tries to clean it up but ends up making even more of a mess. All the children come together and help George clean and they all hope he can come and help in their class again. Teachers could use this book to discuss helping others or if they were doing a lesson on the primary colors and which ones can be used to make new colors, George does this in the book. Teachers could have students make the colors that George does with paints. ( )

CURIOUS GEORGE'S FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL is a slice of life book about a monkey named George who is sent to school for the frist time. When he arrives her really wants to be a helper. He starts to help by making sure everyone has a healthy snack, a bool when it was recess time, and mixing paint for the afternoon art project. However, while mixing paints Curious George ends up making a mess, and when he tries to help clean up he end up getting the janitor, principal, and his teacher chasing after him until his mess turns into an even bigger mess. Curious George really felt bad about not being a good helper, the other students feel bad about that and try to show Curious George that he has been a good helper. The pictures in this book were very detailed and showed what was really happening with emotions as well as matching the illustrations to the text. It lets the reader really see what Curious George is up to. I would use this book in the classroom to discuss the meaning of friendship, as well as helping is all about. ( )

This Curious George book tells of George's attempts to be helpful at school. He tries to help the children in art class but makes a big mess instead. Then he makes more of a mess cleaning it up. It is predictable but young children like simple stories and can relate to making messes and then having to clean them up. ( )
