This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.
A very powerful collection of poems where Bernadette Karpa shows a fearless confrontation to life. Her writing is strongly effective and it is impressive in the way she manages to express an almost mature innocence through these poems. This in turn had a strong effect on my thoughts and feelings.
Her poems are a unity of intensity and playfulness as she shows an odd comfort in the difficult experiences endured on subjects like rape and cancer.
I read it over twice and the second time it deepened my appreciation further.
All in all I recommend this book to any profound reader! ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0996522727, Paperback)

In this striking debut, Bernadette Karpa demonstrates the power of memory through poetry. And She Does Shine takes the reader on a powerful narrative of survivorhood by finding beauty in ordinary places.

Whether she is discovering blessings on a city street or finding solace within difficult experiences, Karpa embodies nostalgia, humor, and longing to illustrate the complexity of childhood, mixed with the incertitude of growing into oneself.

And She Does Shine is a masterful performance of hope, beauty, and resilience. The world Karpa crafts within her poems are a quiet voice imploring us to seek out our inner spirit through everyday phenomenon.
