An actress; Diva Latraviata (!) pretends to be Panacea in order to get back a sword and helmet that Asterix and Obelix have. Much embarrassment and many fights later all is resolved. I love this series. ( )

In which we meet the parents of Asterix and Obelix, Roman internal politics intrudes on the lives of our favourite Indomitable Gauls once again and Latin quotes make a major come-back. Sillier than a can of silly string. ( )

The first "Asterix and Obelix" book I've seen since the death of writer Rene Goscinny. Here, illustrator Albert Uderzo takes over the writing chores, and I never would have noticed a change. Not that that is a good thing; these stories, of a village of indomitable Gauls holding out against the Roman Empire with the aid of a magic potion that beats Popeye's spinach all hollow, follow a formula that got old fast. They never live up to the potential of the premise and Uderzo's serviceably attractive artwork. The same holds here, but I've learned not to expect too much of the series, and thus can enjoy a pleasantly diverting 20 minutes or so reading a decent childrens' series that could be so much better.
