What collector hasn't read advertisements offering to buy, sell and trade back copies of National Geographic Magazine? These advertisements are perennial. They indicate a steady, lively demand for National Geographics. Mr. Buxbaum's book explains why back copies of this magazine are collected, the reason for the magazine's almost universal appeal and why some back copies cost as high as $50 and others only 5 cents. It gives a short history of the National Geographic Society and the beginnings of its magazine; covers completely the bibliography and formats of the magazine from 1888 down through the years; lists supplements and special numbers; gives a good check-list of reprints of early issues, tips on binding and preserving copies, a census of completed sets of the magazine, and a record chart of issues for quick reference. It is written in a readable, entertaining style. We believe that it will be indispensable to people interested in National Geographics, and people who collect them. The Box Tree Press, $1.00
