Deserves to be at least as famous as Harry Potter. ( )

Read through this book in two days. Better than I expected. really a pleasure and something I will re-read and re-read again in the future. Don't know why so many people associate Harry Potter with this book, it is something on it's own and people should not start reading this with expectations of it being like Harry Potter in any way. Great start to the series, the closest character I can compare Jupiter North to would be (minor) Willy Wonka he seems to have that same spirit of fun and magic and anything seems possible when he's around. Morrigan is an even more tragic character than Harry Potter, Potter didn't have the greatest family but at least they weren't actively waiting for him to die.
I'm looking forward to the next books in the series. ( )

Morrigan Crow has been one of the cursed children all her life. Everything bad that has happened to her family or community during her lifetime is due to her curse. Her less than loving family has all but abandoned her and can't seem to wait until the end of her 12th year when all cursed children die. At eleven years old, Morrigan is supposed to have one more year, but suddenly the Skyfaced Clock begins to change and the bells ring signaling the beginning of the Eventide. On her last night of life at her last dinner, Jupiter arrives and offers to take Morrigan away to a place where she will be safe. Barely escaping the Hunt of Smoke and Shadow, Jupiter takes Morrigan to Nevermoor, a magical community where things aren't always what they appear. Jupiter is to be Morrigan's patron in the Wundrous Society trials where she will show her special talent, but Morrigan has no special talent unless being a curse is considered a talent, but Jupiter tells her her talent will be revealed later. In the meantime, Morrigan meets many different characters, but she is troubled by Mr. Jones who continues to find Morrigan and tell her that Ezra Squall would like for her to be his apprentice. She wonders who Ezra Squall is and what his interest in her is.

Some have compared this book to Harry Potter, but Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow is more reminiscent of The Iron Trial. In both books, it is clear that there is an ambiguity regarding the side on which the main character will fall, light or dark. Also in both books, the main character does not really know the history of what has happened to put him or her in this situation. In addition, both involve a special school where he or she will train. Overall this book has many good qualities making it worth the read. ( )
