“Veronica’s First Year” is an amazing book about a young boy whose baby sister was just born into the world. She is a special baby; she has Down syndrome. The most meaningful message that this book communicates to readers is that, although Veronica has Down syndrome and may be slow to learn things, she has the biggest support system in the world and people who are willing to assist her along the way. The author does an amazing job showing the boy’s love for his new baby sister, regardless of her disability. “I can help Veronica,” said Nathan. ( )

I like how the parents explain what down syndrome is and Nathan's positive reaction to the news.

A little girl with down syndrome is loved and celebrated by everyone, especially her brother Nathan. This is all taking place during Veronica's first year. Appropriate for all ages. Great book! The children could make cards for their siblings expresing their love for them.
