This is a beautiful compilation of thirty-seven free verse poems about sports and what it means to be an athlete. The sound is rhythmic and melodic, whether read aloud or to yourself. While the author goes through soccer, baseball, football, gymnastics, wrestling, track, tennis and more, you also experience pleasure and pain with the players. This could be read as a reader’s theater with a class. Also, I see many children that would connect to these poems since sports are an important part of their life or their family’s lives. An extension for the classroom could be to pick a poem and create a symbol that represents that poem, a favorite and share/write to that. no reviews | add a review
