De dundenker is het debuut van Frank Norbert Rieter. Als winnaar van de Coffeecompany Short Novel Award kreeg hij de gelegenheid om bij Xander Uitgevers de debuteren met deze korte roman. Alois Hartman is een politicus die pas kort als staatssecretaris in functie is. In de ochtend voordat hij een wetsvoorstel moet presenteren in de Tweede Kamer constateert hij dat hij weer dikker is geworden. Gefrustreerd gooit hij terwijl hij in zijn adamskostuum door zijn huis loop, de weegschaal uit het raam.
