Paranormal chick-lit, which is a fascinating concept. Things I love: a large lady lead, who is resolutely admired for her curves. She's a bi lady, too, and there's some lovely girl flirting going on. Were-bear with snarky vampire roommate.

Things that aren't my jam: lots of designer clothes love/talk, the setting is working for Vogue in London, people are crappy to each other. ( )

This book is easy to get into, quickly laying out the characters and stakes of the rom-com. I was pretty much sold on "protagonist inconveniently turns into a bear", honestly. That plays a smaller *direct* part in the story than you might expect, but it's important throughout.

I enjoyed riding along with the protagonist's thoughts and seeing this story through. The writing is lively and fast, and the characters painted efficiently and clearly as the pagecount requires. Some are likeable, and others enjoyable as people not to like, if you see what I mean.

Apart from a vague regret that one character emerges un-mauled, I think this is a great story. I'd have liked to see it go longer and give all the characters more room, but that's not to say it would have been *better*, just I left it wanting more - so probably Khaw judged it right.

I'll keep an eye out on Khaw - it seems most of her writing is gory horror which I don't think I'd like, unfortunately, but maybe she'll write more in this vein. ( )

Overall, it was fine. I liked that it showed how the main character had to deal with assholes policing her weight in public, and the ending was delightful. ( )

I picked this up for two reasons. The author is a badass, and who DOESN'T love Prada-wearing were-bears?

Seriously, Khaw has writing chops if she can turn a Devil Wears Prada/chick lit/candy-coated plus-sized fashionista who has the hots for all the wrong supernaturals into something *I* really enjoyed.

I mean, it's rom-com and talking about *feminine issues* and having *that time of the month* I.E., turning into a Kodiak Bear, and alllllll about hooking up with that special someone(s). And yet I chuckled throughout the novella! :)

It ain't one of Khaw's dark, blood-soaked, ultra-sick lovecraftian genre mashups, but she's got me hooked from now to eternity. I'm following this one around like some super fanboy stalker from now on. :) (or at least, I'm going to devour everything she writes from now on) lol TRUST. I totally TRUST her.
